Diving Mount Whitney, Part IV

A day at Lone Pine Lake
1 July 2006

Bob, Keith, Elizabeth and Jane at Whitney Portal

A beautiful day was had at this 10,000 foot wonderland.

We enjoyed the Flora

And we enjoyed the Fauna

Mostly we enjoyed water related activities:

Be it in liquid form, useful for swimming and diving, or be it in solid form, as for down hill sliding or for making snowballs. (Disclaimer: No snowballs were thrown in anger!)

Hope to see you lakeside sometime.
                        Smile,
                                              Bob and Jane

The Story:

It was a beautiful day to hike up to Lone Pine lake.  This trip, the first of the 2006 season for me occured a couple of weeks after initially planned.  The benefit of a couple of delays was not only getting my wife Jane to enjoy the lake for the first time, but also to have friends Keith and Elizabeth join us to enjoy the day.

The "day" started at 2 AM for us.  Unless a whole weekend is planned with camping or a hotel stay, getting up early is a must.  Our four hour drive to Lone Pine, and about a three hour hike up the hill requires some sleep loss.  I rather do the hike before it becomes too warm.
